About
DataCenterBoom! is a repository of information for communities and local authorities concerned and affected by the socio-environmental impacts and conflicts caused by the deployment of data centers for Artificial Intelligence in Latin America.
Recognizing the lack of transparency and the enormous disparity between the information available to communities and that held by authorities and technology companies, this website aims to democratize and facilitate access to information for ordinary people.
It is mainly inspired by case studies of data centers in Brazil, Chile, and Mexico (State of Querétaro), as well as by global experiences. Its development involved transparency consultations, analysis of academic sources, media reports, and documents from civil and international organizations, along with in-depth interviews.
DataCenterBoom! would not have been possible without the collaboration of fifteen people, including activists, journalists, consultants, and academics, who gave their time and generously guided this initiative with their knowledge and experience. We would also like to thank our direct collaborators who made this initiative possible, including Rodrigo Vallejos, Marjorie Neto, Mónica Peña, Karen Vergara, Constanza Figueroa, and Marcelo Aliste.
DataCenterBoom! is an initiative of the Latin American Terraforming Institute, made possible by a Mozilla Senior Fellowship from the Mozilla Foundation. You can contact us at info [at] terraforminglatam.net
